Restoration Project at Canton Lutheran

Above are a few pictures of the ongoing restoration project at Canton Lutheran Church. The cost of this non insured expense to Canton Lutheran Church is now above $30,000, and rising daily. This phase of the project is expected to be complete sometime this weekend. The council will meet on Wednesday to begin creating an action plan to move us into God’s future.

Funds are continuing to be collected for Wessington Springs, Canton, and Canton Lutheran Church. We are actively supporting all three endeavors. Checks can be sent to the South Dakota Synod office at:

South Dakota Synod, ELCA
2001 S. Summit Ave.
Sioux Falls, SD 57197

Please clearly specify in the memo line where the funds should be directed.

There continues to be a need for volunteers at Canton. Ninety percent of the homes in Canton had sewer water in them. Please call the 211 HelpLine if you wish to volunteer. Lutheran Disaster Response is working to coordinate these efforts.

Wessington Springs Relocates Volunteer Center

WESSINGTON SPRINGS, S.D. – Officials coordinating Wessington Springs recovery from a June 18 tornado have relocated the Volunteer Service Center to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

The center coordinates all volunteer assistance in the community and surrounding area. Counseling for emotional and spiritual needs is also available there, as is a lost-and-found area for items volunteers have found and other items that may have been lost by volunteers assisting with clean-up.

Beginning Tuesday, July 1, the contact number for the Volunteer Service Center is 605-212-9605.

The Donations Distribution Center has been moved to the Methodist Church in Wessington Springs. No clothing donations are being accepted at this time. Both centers previously were in the Wessington Springs Elementary School.

Individuals and groups or businesses wishing to support recovery efforts are encouraged to contribute to the Wessington Springs Relief Fund. Cash donations designated to the Wessington Springs Relief Fund may be dropped off at American Bank & Trust locations in Wessington Springs, Alpena, Huron, Wolsey, Miller, Huron-Walmart, Pierre, Mellette and De Smet.
